“Gentlemen of the press, let me use this opportunity to thank all Nigerians, members of my family, and concerned citizens who have expressed very serious concerns for the past six days, because of the prevailing situation between me and my office.
“This morning my attention was drawn to a report that I have died in detention. This has caused serious anxiety within the populace. I want to use this medium to tell Nigerians, members of my family and all concerned citizens that I am healthy.
“I am a staff of the Department of State Services, DSS, and having completed my tour of duties as Chief Security Officer, CSO, to the last President, the Service feels that I should give account of my tenure.
These were the words of the detained Chief Security Officer, CSO, to immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Gordon Obua, as he dispelled rumours of his death, declaring that he was hale and hearty, on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at a press briefing.
Obua, while addressing journalists at the headquarters of the Department State Services, DSS, in Abuja, assured Nigerians and members of his family that ”nothing adverse will be done to my person if I have not done anything wrong.”
The detained officer explained that he was invited by DSS to come and give the account of his stewardship as the former Chief Security Office, CSO, to ex-President Jonathan.
“So far, there is no adverse situation and I am optimistic that Nigerians will be informed about the outcome of this exercise. Once again, I thank you immensely and I want to use this opportunity to thank the Director General of DSS, Mr. Mohamed Daura, for the way he has treated me from the time I came in to this period.
