Danfo Bus Driver Stabs LASTMA Officer in Lagos

The driver of a Volkswagen ‘T4’ danfo bus with license plate LSR 966 YE was arrested by Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Nigeria Police. This arrest took place due to the driver allegedly stabbing a LASTMA officer after being apprehended for causing serious traffic obstructions by picking up passengers on the main expressway around Costain Round-About, Surulere area, Lagos.

Olajide Olukoga, the LASTMA officer leading the enforcement team, mentioned that the Volkswagen ‘T4’ bus was impounded because it was picking up passengers on the main expressway, in violation of regulations that require drivers to use designated bus stops for such activities. The enforcement operation occurred around Costain Roundabout, heading towards Iponri, following multiple warnings by the state government to commercial bus and private car drivers to use designated stops when picking up or dropping off passengers.

During the apprehension, the driver attempted to escape and, in the process, used a knife to stab Olajide Olukoga, the LASTMA officer. The driver was eventually arrested with the assistance of the police from Iponri Police Station. It was also discovered that the driver had dangerous weapons, including a cutlass and a knife, in his commercial Volkswagen ‘T4’ bus.
