Kogi Police Corporal Allegedly Shoots Female Colleague Dead, Commits Suicide

A police corporal, identified as Amos Yusuf, has allegedly shot and killed his female colleague, Woman Corporal Grace Onimisi, before turning the gun on himself at a police camp in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The incident occurred at ASCO Camp on Friday night, October 23, 2026, prompting an investigation by the Kogi State Police Command.

The command confirmed the deaths in a statement issued on Sunday, October 25, by its spokesperson, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat.

According to the police, the incident was reported at about 11:04 p.m., after which the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ajaokuta led a team of officers to the scene.

“Preliminary findings indicate that Corporal Amos Yusuf, who was on night duty, shot Woman Corporal Grace Onimisi and thereafter shot himself,” the statement said.

The police spokesperson disclosed that both officers were rushed to separate medical facilities, where medical personnel confirmed them dead.

Their remains were subsequently deposited at the mortuary of ASCO Hospital.

The command said an AK-47 rifle and four expended cartridges were recovered at the scene as exhibits.

It added that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for an in-depth investigation.

Although media reports have linked the incident to an alleged romantic relationship between the officers and disagreements over the relationship, the police have not officially established the motive.

The command stressed that the circumstances surrounding the incident remained under investigation and urged the public to avoid speculation.

The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, expressed condolences to the families, colleagues and loved ones of the deceased officers.
