CAN condemns Government’s compensation to Kaduna killer-herdsmen

fulani-herdsmen-696x464Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Kaduna State chapter, yesterday, has condemned the reports that the state government had located herdsmen involved in clashes in Southern Kaduna, so they can be compensated.

Kaduna State Chairman of CAN and Catholic Bishop of Zaria Diocese, Bishop Jonathan Dodos, who addressed the press yesterday at the end of Chairman-in-Council meeting, insisted that what was going on in Southern Kaduna was ethno-religion cleansing by herdsmen in a way that was “sickening and repulsive to civilisation.”
He said CAN had taken a tour of the five villages attacked by armed herdsmen in Chawai Chiedom, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State last month and saw the destruction homes, two churches, barns and crops set ablaze leaving behind 45 corpses, and nine injured persons.
He said: “Are they to be made to face the law or be appeased and compensated? If the government can trace them, then they know the very people that have been carrying out the killings in Southern Kaduna.
“The next question to ask is, what has the state government done for the victims? Again, how much has been given to these herdsmen? These moves are shocking and incredible.”
