A Nigerian Army Colonel has been killed after reportedly resisting an attempt by armed gunmen to abduct him at his residence in Abuja.
The officer, identified as Colonel Abdussalam Ude, was said to have fought back when the attackers attempted to whisk him away. Security sources said the gunmen, unable to overpower him, shot him multiple times at close range, killing him on the spot.
The attack also left the colonel’s wife, driver and a security guard with varying degrees of gunshot injuries. The victims were rushed to a hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
Security agencies have launched an investigation into the incident and intensified efforts to track down the perpetrators. The motive behind the attack is still being investigated, although preliminary reports indicate the assailants intended to abduct the senior military officer.
