The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a married woman, Mrs Rukayat Muhammed of Garki Area 2, Abuja, alongside two hotel workers over the discovery of a man’s body under the Katampe Bridge along the Kubwa Expressway.
The development was disclosed by the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, during a press briefing in Abuja on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
According to the police, the case began after the man’s family reported him missing and investigators later established that the body found under the bridge was that of the missing man.
The deceased’s missing mobile phone became a major lead in the investigation. Although the phone had been switched off, detectives were able to trace his last known communication to Muhammed.
Police said further investigation revealed that Muhammed, who is married, was allegedly in a romantic relationship with the deceased and had saved his contact as “Safiyat” on her phone.
Sanusi said the pair had lodged at the Good Samaritan Guest House on Second Avenue, Gwarimpa, Abuja, where Muhammed allegedly discovered that the man was no longer breathing.
Rather than immediately reporting the incident to the police, the woman allegedly took the deceased’s mobile phone and left the hotel.
Hours later, according to the police, hotel management attempted to reach the occupants of the room but received no response. The room was subsequently accessed and the man’s body was discovered.
The Commissioner said two members of the hotel management, identified as Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefat Bitrus, allegedly failed to report the discovery to the police.
Instead, the two men allegedly removed the body from the hotel and transported it to the Kubwa Expressway by Katampe, where they dumped it under the bridge.
The police said the discovery of the body had initially generated concerns and speculation about possible kidnapping or “one chance” robbery. However, investigators continued to trace the circumstances surrounding the man’s disappearance.
Sanusi stressed that the exact cause and circumstances of the man’s death had not yet been established.
He said further investigative processes were ongoing to determine what happened to the deceased and the respective roles of those linked to the case.
The Commissioner also warned that anyone found to have played a role in the man’s death, or in the concealment and abandonment of his body, would face the law.
The case has therefore taken a dramatic turn, with police investigations moving from the discovery of a mysterious body under a bridge to a Gwarimpa hotel where the deceased allegedly spent his final hours.
For the man’s family, the investigation has also provided a crucial lead in their search for answers about how their loved one died and ended up abandoned beneath a bridge in Abuja.
