Pastor Arrested for Alleged Rape and Impregnation of Minor Girl in Rivers State

Rumuji Police Division, located in Emohua Local Government Area, Rivers State, has arrested a Pastor known as Pillar on charges of defiling a minor, which has resulted in her pregnancy.

The arrest of Pastor Pillar, who serves as a clergyman at a new generation church in Ndele community, followed a complaint filed by Mr. Amesi ThankGod, the brother of the victim’s elder sister.

According to ThankGod, it was a routine for the girl to go to the church to relax if her mother went to the farm, returning home in the evening. However, a few days ago, she began experiencing vomiting, prompting ThankGod’s wife to take her for medical checks. The test results confirmed her pregnancy, revealing the distressing truth.

ThankGod shared that the girl had confided in them, revealing that Pastor Pillar had threatened her life if she were to disclose her ordeal. However, when ThankGod’s wife confronted the pastor, he admitted his responsibility and suggested an abortion for his underage sister-in-law, a proposition that the family firmly rejected.

The girl’s health has been significantly impacted by the pregnancy, leaving her weak and dependent on her mother or ThankGod’s wife for basic activities such as bathing and dressing.

Prince Wiro, the National Coordinator of the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, has called upon the police to conduct an unbiased investigation into the case. Wiro emphasized the importance of ensuring justice is served and the suspect is appropriately prosecuted if found guilty.

The arrest of Pastor Pillar highlights the grave issue of child defilement and the urgent need to protect vulnerable members of society. The case serves as a reminder of the responsibility placed upon authorities to thoroughly investigate such crimes and hold the perpetrators accountable.
