Veteran Nollywood Actor Ogogo Dies at 66 After Battle With Stage-Four Cancer

Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66 after battling stage-four cancer.

The Yoruba movie star’s death was reported on Sunday, August 23, 2026, with Channels Television and Radio Nigeria among the outlets confirming the development.

Ogogo’s death came only days after his daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo, made emotional public appeals for medical assistance for their father.

The daughters had disclosed that the veteran actor was suffering from stage-four cancer and appealed to medical professionals and hospitals capable of providing further treatment to come to his aid.

Lima had said the family only became aware of the severity of her father’s condition about three weeks earlier, while Kira revealed that doctors had told the family that chemotherapy could no longer be administered.

The family stressed at the time that they were seeking medical assistance rather than financial donations.

A doctor, Olusina Ajidahun, later explained that patients with advanced cancer may sometimes be moved from aggressive treatment to palliative care when available treatment options have been exhausted or are no longer considered appropriate.

Ogogo was one of the most recognisable figures in Yoruba-language cinema, with a career spanning more than four decades. He featured in hundreds of films and also established himself as a filmmaker and producer.

His death has triggered an outpouring of tributes from fans, colleagues and admirers of his work across Nigeria.

The actor’s passing is particularly poignant coming shortly after his family’s desperate appeal for help as they battled to find further treatment for his advanced cancer.
