101-Year-Old Great-Grandmother Arrested for Selling Cannabis in Ogun

A 101-year-old great-grandmother, identified as Esther Ogunmabo, has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for allegedly selling cannabis in Ilisan, Ogun State.

The centenarian was arrested on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with 90 grammes of skunk, a strain of cannabis, packaged in small sachets.

According to the NDLEA, Ogunmabo allegedly admitted that she sold the substance to people in the community.

The agency said the elderly woman told operatives that she ventured into the illicit drug trade after her provisions shop was destroyed by fire.

She reportedly disclosed that one of her daughters, who lives in Lagos, arranged for cannabis to be supplied to her every four days, after which she sold it in small quantities.

Following her arrest, the NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), directed that the 101-year-old suspect be granted bail and placed on counselling because of her advanced age.

Her daughter, who was allegedly involved in supplying the cannabis, has also been arrested.

The development was contained in an NDLEA statement released on Sunday as the agency announced several drug seizures and arrests across the country.
