27 Women sentenced to jail for prostitution

27 women were on Monday sentenced to one month imprisonment by a mobile court in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, for prostitution. The convicts, who were arrested last Wednesday and Thursday, were, however, given an option of N3,000 fine each. Their lawyer, Jennifer Ogbogu, explained that the sex workers pleaded guilty to the charges against them and were summarily convicted and sentenced. Codeine-based cough syrup manufacturers to be compensated by FG

Manufacturers of codeine-based cough syrup who had their products withdrawn from circulation in the wake of the 2018  BBC documentary about the nationwide abuse of the drug, are set to be compensated by the Federal Government. Motorists abscond as bandits raid on Kaduna – Abuja highway

The Kaduna – Abuja Express was on Monday, blocked by kidnappers thereby forcing several motorists to abandon their vehicles and head for nearby bushes to avoid being abducted. A 30-year-old man, Hamza Sani, has been arrested by operatives of the Kastina State Police Command, for allegedly conspiring with four others to steal a microscope belonging to the Malumfashi General Hospital, in the Malunfashi area of the state. Abuchi Onuorah, a 24-year-old man, has allegedly killed his 65-year-old father, Onyiauke Onuorah, in Nando, in the Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State. After failing school final examinations, no fewer than 19 students in India’s Telangana state are thought to have committed suicide, officials and news reports said on Thursday.
