The Nigerian Army has arrested two serving soldiers over their alleged involvement in an unauthorized security deployment during the star-studded wedding of popular content creator Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, and TikTok personality Jarvis in Lekki, Lagos.
The soldiers were reportedly apprehended on Tuesday following intelligence reports that military personnel had been deployed without authorization to provide security at the celebrity wedding, which took place over the weekend.
The arrested personnel were identified as Private Onasanya Ifeoluwa (Service No. 23NA/85/10007) and Private Ukpai Onyinyechi (Service No. 23NA/85/7885), both attached to the 81 Division Medical Services and Hospital (81DMSH), Obalende, Lagos.
According to military sources, the arrests were made after credible intelligence linked the soldiers to the unauthorized deployment.
A military source said preliminary investigations are ongoing to establish the extent of their involvement and identify any other personnel connected with the incident.
The controversy erupted after videos from the lavish wedding circulated on social media, showing men dressed in military uniforms controlling access to parts of the venue and escorting celebrities and invited guests.
One of the viral clips allegedly showed a soldier acting as a personal escort and bouncer for TikTok influencer Ivanna, sparking widespread criticism and raising questions about the use of serving military personnel at a private event.
The wedding, attended by several celebrities, entertainers and social media influencers, had initially dominated online conversations for its glamour before the emergence of the controversial videos shifted public attention.
The Nigerian Army has consistently maintained that serving personnel are prohibited from undertaking private security duties or participating in unauthorized deployments without official approval. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and whether additional military personnel were involved.
Neither Peller nor Jarvis had publicly responded to the development as of the time of filing this report.
