Gunmen Kill 17 in Plateau State Attack; New Security Centre Launched

Gunmen have tragically taken the lives of 17 individuals once again in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. This appalling incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday in the Heipang community. A parent named Julius Pam, devastated by the attack, confirmed this unfortunate event. Among the victims were my own brother, his spouse, and their children.

In response to the growing security concerns, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has launched a Security and Information Centre. Its purpose is to facilitate public access to report security-related information to the appropriate authorities for swift action. The centre, established by the Plateau State Information and Communication Technology Development Agency, aims to bridge the communication gap between the public and the government.

The centre will utilize simple technology to create a toll-free hotline (080 0000 5555) where citizens can share information without incurring charges, as the state government will cover all incoming call costs. This initiative seeks to quickly gather early warning signals and allow timely intervention while also collecting feedback on developmental matters within the state.

Operating 24/7, the centre aims for efficient service delivery, encouraging citizens to report security concerns from their communities with the assurance of complete confidentiality.
