The Lagos State Government on Friday shut 12 houses in Abeokuta and Ibadan Streets in Ilasamaja area of the State over discovery of shallow oil wells built by landlords to illegally scoop diesel from pipeline belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). A new militant group, Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate, which threatened to blow up oil installations in the upland of the Niger Delta region, on Wednesday, made good its threat. The group reportedly blew up a major trunk line operated by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company in Isoko, which feeds Eriemu Manifold. The Chairman, Kwara State Local Government Pensioners Association, Mr. lsiaka Akanbi, on Saturday, said no fewer than 1,005 of its members had died since April 2015, as a result of unpaid pension allowances. Akanbi, in an interview with our correspondent in Ilorin, the state capital, said the victims, who cut across the 16 local government councils of the state, died as a result of their inability to get adequate healthcare attention.
