Chief Malcom Omirhobo, a Human rights lawyer, has sued the Federal Government (FG), Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lagos State government and its attorney general, and 12 other northern states and their attorneys general at the Federal High Court, Lagos, over-allocation of Value Added Tax (VAT) realised from the sale of alcoholic beverages. Former Imo State governor and presidential aspirant, Rochas Okorocha, was yesterday arrested by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), at his Maitama, Abuja residence. Though the security operatives met stiff resistance from the supporters of the former governor, tear gas was fired to disperse them to effect the arrest. The anti-graft agency said it laid siege to the home of the former governor to arrest him, accusing him of jumping bail granted him by the commission. The Ikoyi Federal High Court has ordered the Chairman of the Lagos State Park and Garages Management, Musiliu Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo, and eight others to stop collecting levies from commercial drivers. An 18-year-old boy, simply identified as Matthew, was among the five persons rescued at the site of the three-story building that collapsed on Freeman Street, Lagos Island, on Saturday, as the rescue operation continued yesterday. It was gathered that four people died in the collapsed building that was undergoing conversion into a three-storey building.
