Apostle Babalola: How Pastor Fatoyinbo Erred, Apologized to CAC

Pastor Fatoyinbo and Late Prophet Ayo Babalola

Senior Pastor of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Biodun Fatoyinbo, has tendered an unreserved apology to the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) over remarks he made about its late founder, Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola.

The apology followed backlash from members of the CAC and other Christian faithful, who faulted Fatoyinbo’s comments in a recent sermon that appeared to cast the late revivalist in an unfavourable light.

In the sermon, Fatoyinbo had reportedly made statements about Apostle Babalola’s ministry methods and personal life which many considered disrespectful to the memory of the revered evangelist, credited with spearheading one of Nigeria’s greatest Christian revivals in the 1930s.

Amid mounting criticism, the COZA pastor retracted his words, describing them as “an error in judgment” and acknowledging Babalola’s lasting impact on Nigeria’s Christian faith.

> “I take full responsibility for my words. My intention was never to diminish the legacy of Apostle Babalola, a man used mightily by God. I apologize to the Christ Apostolic Church and the body of Christ for any offence caused,” Fatoyinbo said.

The CAC leadership confirmed receipt of the apology, noting that while the church was displeased by the remarks, it appreciated the public retraction.

Apostle Babalola, who died in 1959, remains a towering figure in Nigeria’s Pentecostal history, revered for his revival campaigns, healing ministry, and dedication to prayer. His legacy continues to inspire millions of worshippers in Nigeria and beyond.
