A lecturer at Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, has reportedly died after an encounter with a 21-year-old commercial sex worker at a hotel in the town.
The deceased, identified as Dr. Matthew Uwuigbe, was said to be a lecturer in the Faculty of Medical Laboratory Science at the university.
According to reports, Uwuigbe lodged at a hotel in the Mosco area of Ekpoma with the young woman, identified as Angela Defa Jacob.
It was gathered that after the reported sexual encounter, the lecturer allegedly asked the woman to step out and get him some water.
However, upon her return to the hotel room, she reportedly found Uwuigbe lying lifeless.
The incident was subsequently reported to the police, who commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the lecturer’s death.
The Edo State Police Command reportedly arrested the woman, alongside the hotel owner and manager, for questioning.
Uwuigbe’s remains were said to have been deposited at the Oriaifo Memorial Hospital mortuary.
Ambrose Alli University has also confirmed that the deceased was a member of its academic staff, while clarifying that the incident occurred off campus and that the woman involved was not a student of the university.
Police authorities have not established that the sexual encounter caused the lecturer’s death. The circumstances and actual cause of death remain subject to investigation.
