Several students and other occupants sustained injuries after a three-storey hostel building collapsed in Amaokpala, near the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The building, identified as Elite Five Star Lodge, reportedly caved in late Sunday night, trapping occupants beneath the rubble and triggering a frantic rescue operation.
Emergency responders, including officials of the Anambra State Police Command, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), local vigilantes, and residents, rushed to the scene to rescue those trapped.
Initial reports indicated that several victims were pulled out alive and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities have continued search-and-rescue operations to ensure no one remains trapped under the debris.
The cause of the collapse has yet to be officially determined. However, government officials have sealed off the area while structural experts begin investigations into the incident.
