NDPHC Executes Over 374 Power Projects to Enhance Distribution and Transmission Across Nigeria

Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) has successfully carried out 374 projects in the distribution subsector of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI), aimed at enhancing power supply nationwide.

The Managing Director/CEO of NDPHC, Mr. Chiedu Ugbo, revealed this during the 8th Nigeria Energy Forum in Lagos. The projects, which cost over $1.2 billion, are expected to be reimbursed by the benefiting electricity distribution companies (DisCos).

The executed projects encompassed 337 33/11kV lines, 25,281 25kVA and 50kVA CSP transformers, and 199 distribution transformers (ranging from 100 to 500 KVA) with a cumulative capacity of 108MVA. Additionally, 2,256km of 33kV lines and 4,670km of 11kV lines were established.

In the transmission subsector, NDPHC accomplished over 121 transmission line and substation projects. Expansion works were conducted in 34 TCN substations across the country, including Enugu, Jos, and Owerri. Moreover, 51 330/132kV substations were constructed, adding 6,450MVA transmission capacity, along with 132/33kV substations with 3,160MVA transmission capacity. The initiative also saw the establishment of 2,703km of 330kV lines and 765km of 132kV lines, with 25 ongoing projects.

These initiatives led to a complete transformation of the Nigerian grid from a hitherto radial structure to a substantially looped one, providing significant redundancy to power flow across the grid. Such a setup was previously unavailable before the implementation of NIPP (National Integrated Power Projects).
