A 43-year-old man named Azeez Isa was apprehended while attempting to rob a modern bank located opposite the Maplewood Estate in the Oko Oba area of Lagos State. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday.
Isa was caught in the act with a sledgehammer, which he was using to forcefully breach the bank’s security door in an attempt to gain entry.
A police insider, speaking anonymously, revealed that security personnel assigned to the bank became alerted upon hearing the loud banging noises. They followed the sounds and discovered the suspect repeatedly striking the security door with the sledgehammer. Initially, the security guards were apprehensive because they were uncertain if there were others involved in the attempted robbery.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident, stating that they received a distress call at approximately 4:20 am. In response, their patrol team swiftly arrived at the scene and arrested the man while he was still attempting to break the door. The suspect is currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation.
