Lagos Couple Sentenced to Two Years for Drug Dealing

A husband and wife, Mr. Ikechukwu Okafor and Ifeyinwa Okafor, residing in Okota, Lagos State, were sentenced to two years in prison by the Federal High Court in Lagos for their involvement in dealing with 19.12 kilograms of Methamphetamine, a prohibited drug. They pleaded guilty to the charges of conspiracy, unlawful dealing, and unlawful possession of the banned substance, as brought against them by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

The couple committed these offenses on October 5, 2023, at their residence in Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos. Their actions violated specific sections of the NDLEA Act Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The prosecutor requested that the court impose a sentence in accordance with the charges they faced, while the couple’s lawyer asked for leniency, highlighting their clean criminal records as first-time offenders. Despite this, the judge sentenced them to 24 months in prison and ordered them to pay a fine of N300 million on each of the five counts, totaling N1.5 million each.
