Israel Seeks $10 Billion Emergency Aid from US Amid Palestinian-Israeli Conflict Escalation

Israel has reportedly requested $10 billion in emergency aid from the United States in response to the recent escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The White House is said to be preparing an assistance package, which also includes aid for Ukraine, funding to strengthen the US-Mexico border, and aid for Taiwan. This request for aid comes as Israel conducts operations in the Gaza Strip.

On Sunday, the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, mentioned that Washington was considering Israel’s requests for additional military aid for its Gaza operations. Additionally, the US President, Joe Biden, is expected to receive updates from Israeli officials during his visit to Israel regarding their strategy against Hamas in Gaza, including the pace of their military operations.

While there was some discussion about potentially tying assistance for Ukraine and Taiwan in a supplemental funding request to Congress, no final decision had been made as of last week. The US Army Secretary, Christine Wormuth, stated that additional congressional support would be necessary to provide security assistance to both Ukraine and Israel simultaneously.

This situation follows an unexpected attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on Israel on October 7, leading to retaliatory strikes on the Gaza Strip and resulting in casualties on both sides of the conflict.
