Wife Allegedly Stabs Husband to Death Eight Months After Wedding in Abia

A newlywed woman, identified as Mrs. Serah Innocent, has been arrested by the Abia State Police Command for allegedly stabbing her husband, Mr. Innocent Nworji, to death, barely eight months after their wedding.

The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the couple’s residence in Ohuru-Isimiri community, Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.

According to the police, the couple had a misunderstanding during which Serah allegedly stabbed her husband in the chest with a kitchen knife.

The victim was reportedly rushed to a hospital but was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

The Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed that the incident was reported at the Ohuru-Isimiri Police Divisional Headquarters on August 9.

She said the scene of the incident had been visited, while the deceased’s body was deposited at a mortuary for autopsy.

“The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor. The scene of the crime has been visited, the corpse deposited at the mortuary for autopsy, and the suspect is currently in police custody,” the police spokesperson said.

Reports said the couple got married in December 2025, making the marriage barely eight months old when the tragedy occurred.

A younger brother of the deceased, Nnadozie Samuel Nworji, said he was alerted to the incident by the couple’s priest on the night of the incident.

He alleged that Serah raised an alarm after the stabbing, prompting neighbours and the landlord to intervene and alert the police.

The deceased’s brother also said Serah later claimed that her husband used to beat her, an allegation he described as surprising.

He said the couple had reportedly disagreed over phone use shortly before the stabbing.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, where discreet investigation is ongoing.
