WAFCON Victory: Tinubu Gifts Super Falcons Players $100,000 Each

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has rewarded members of Nigeria’s women national football team, the Super Falcons, with a cash gift of $100,000 each, following their outstanding performance at the just-concluded Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The announcement was made on Monday during a reception held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja in honour of the team. The Super Falcons recently claimed their 12th WAFCON title, reaffirming Nigeria’s dominance in women’s football on the African continent.

President Tinubu, who commended the players for their dedication, resilience, and patriotism, said the financial reward was in recognition of their commitment to excellence and for making the country proud.

“You have not only lifted the trophy but have also lifted the spirit of the entire nation. This is a token of appreciation for the honour you brought to Nigeria,” the president stated during the event.

In addition to the players, officials and coaching staff of the team were also rewarded, though the specific figures for the technical crew were not disclosed at the time of this report.

Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, expressed gratitude to the president for the gesture, noting that it would go a long way in motivating athletes to give their best in future competitions.

The Super Falcons defeated South Africa in a tense final to clinch the 2025 WAFCON trophy, marking a historic moment in African women’s football and further cementing Nigeria’s reputation as a powerhouse in the sport.
