The suspended captain of ValueJet Airline, Oluranti Ogoyi, has given a detailed account of the incident involving Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Captain Ogoyi, along with her co-pilot, Flight Officer Ivan Oloba, was suspended by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for breaching safety protocols. The NCAA has also barred K1 from flying in Nigeria for six months.
In a written statement, Capt. Ogoyi said boarding for the Abuja–Lagos flight commenced on schedule at 8:10 a.m., and that the musician arrived at the aircraft between 8:15 and 8:20 a.m., carrying a gold flask of unknown contents.
“Ground staff requested, as per standard procedure, to verify the content of the flask, but he vehemently refused,” she stated. “He was seen drinking from it, and staff suspected it contained alcohol, a prohibited substance on board Nigerian aircraft. Instead, he responded with, ‘Do you know who I am? You have no right to tell me to open my flask.’”
Ogoyi explained that security personnel repeated the request, but K1 became confrontational, disrupting the boarding process. To prevent further delay, she left the cockpit to address him personally.
“Without warning, he opened the flask and poured its contents on me, the security personnel, and some nearby passengers,” she alleged. “Airport security intervened, and the Head of Security advised that Mr. Ayinde should not be allowed to travel on the flight. I agreed, prioritising the safety of passengers and crew.”
According to her, after the aircraft doors were shut, K1 lingered near the plane, obstructing movement. She made a public announcement to passengers about the delay, and the flight departed for Lagos at about 8:50 a.m. once he was removed from the vicinity.
“This incident caused significant delay, disruption, and posed safety risks to passengers, crew, and flight operations,” Ogoyi concluded.
