Protests Disrupt Academic Activities at Osun State Polytechnic Over Suspension of Rector

Osun State Polytechnic experienced disruptions in academic activities as various unions within the school staged protests following the suspension of the school’s recently appointed Rector, Dr. Tajudeen Odetayo.

The state government, through a letter dated July 11, 2023, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, M. K. Jimoh, suspended the Rector due to allegations of corruption. The suspension was implemented pending the investigation and resolution of the allegations, and he was replaced by Mr. Kehinde Alabi.

Protesters, comprising students and members of the school’s Academic Staff Union of the Polytechnic (ASUP), gathered at the polytechnic’s entrance as early as 7:30 on Tuesday morning.

They carried placards with various inscriptions to express their discontent with the removal of the embattled rector. In response to the situation, the students and ASUP members locked the school gate, preventing any academic or other activities from taking place on the campus.
