Tragedy struck in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Sunday night when a man, popularly known as Doctor, allegedly stabbed his lover, identified simply as Ima, to death over allegations of infidelity.
The incident occurred on Okereke Street, Mile 1 Diobu, in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, throwing residents into panic.
Eyewitnesses said the suspect confronted Ima over claims of cheating, sparking a heated argument. In the course of the altercation, Doctor allegedly drew a knife and fatally stabbed her.
A resident told reporters that the caretaker of the compound quickly reported the matter to the Azikiwe Police Division, Mile 2 Diobu. Police operatives later arrived at the scene, arrested the suspect, and evacuated the corpse.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation.
