Lagos Security Guard Earns Widespread Commendation After Returning Customer’s Missing $9,100

A Lagos-based security operative, Adebanjo Samuel, has been celebrated for an extraordinary act of honesty after returning a customer’s misplaced $9,100 while on duty at a First City Monument Bank (FCMB) branch in Marina, Lagos.

The incident, which occurred on May 25, 2026, has attracted widespread commendation from members of the public and industry stakeholders, with many describing the security guard as a shining example of integrity and professionalism.

In a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday, Proton Security Service Limited confirmed the development, noting that Adebanjo’s conduct reflects the core values of discipline, trustworthiness, and ethical responsibility that the company instills in its personnel.

According to the firm, Adebanjo discovered the misplaced funds while carrying out his duties at the FCMB branch and ensured that the money was safely returned to its rightful owner.

The company praised the operative’s exemplary character, stating that his action had reinforced confidence in the professionalism of security personnel deployed across various client locations.

“Adebanjo has been hailed as a true hero, showing that something great can still come out of here,” the statement noted.

To honour his remarkable display of integrity, Proton Security Service Limited announced plans to host a special civic reception at its corporate headquarters. The event will bring together colleagues, family members, friends, industry stakeholders, and members of the media to celebrate his honesty and dedication to duty.

Speaking on the development, the Managing Director of Proton Security Service Limited, Odebunmi Adekunmi, described the incident as a proud moment for the organisation and a validation of its commitment to ethical standards.

“This act of honesty reflects the principles upon which our organisation was built and the standards we expect from every member of our workforce,” Adekunmi said.

He added that Adebanjo’s conduct demonstrated that professionalism goes beyond performing assigned duties and includes making the right decisions even when no one is watching.

Responding to the recognition, Adebanjo said his decision to return the money was guided by principle rather than the value of the cash involved.

“It is not about the amount; it is about the principle. I was raised to be truthful and to do what is right irrespective of the circumstances. Even if the money had been much more, I would still have returned it,” he said.

As commendations continue to pour in, many Nigerians have described Adebanjo’s action as a timely reminder that character, integrity, and honesty remain indispensable virtues capable of leaving a lasting legacy.
