Lagos resident sentenced to 14 years in prison for attempted robbery

A man named Temitope Olowo has been sentenced to 14 years in prison by a Lagos State High Court for attempted robbery in the state. The court, presided over by Justice Yetunde Adesanya, delivered the verdict after Olowo pleaded guilty to an amended charge of attempted robbery as part of a plea bargain.

Olowo was initially charged with three counts of armed robbery and had pleaded not guilty. However, during the trial, his defense counsel, J. I. Osagede, filed for a plea bargain agreement, leading to the amendment of the charges.

According to the prosecution counsel, Olayemi Shofolu, Olowo committed the offense on July 26, 2017, at a location on Akowonjo Street in Lagos. The convict had attempted to rob Desmond Ifeanyi of his personal belongings, which violated Section 298(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

After Olowo pleaded guilty to the amended charge, Justice Adesanya found him guilty and sentenced him to 14 years behind bars. The judge specified that the sentence would be effective from October 16, 2017, the day Olowo was initially remanded in custody.
