Crisis rock Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory agency as DG refuses to vacate after tenure expires

The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority Agency’s members are at war and it is believed that the executives of the agency are divided over issues bordering on the tenure expiration of the DG/CEO of the agency, Dr. Yau Usman Idris.

It was gathered that, the in-fighting among the executives had been on for long due to the alleged nepotism and high handedness of the Director-General whose tenure ends on February 18, 2024.

However, the Kaduna State born outgoing DG, Dr. Idris resumed work on Monday and was still carrying on with activities as if his tenure has not lapsed.

Many of those within the agency, which is an arm of the Ministry of Petroleum had earlier complained that once his tenure lapses, he is expected to step aside, especially with the way he ran his tenure with tribalism.

It is believed that, Dr. Idris has little or no performance in his first term, thereby proving that, he is not a capable hand in the agency, but he strongly believes in the fact that, he is a northerner and thus, he is above the agency’s rules and regulations.

There are indications that, he is relying on the office of the Vice President of Nigeria to get a second term in office despite his below average performance.

At the moment, the directors and other stakeholders in the
Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority Agency are at loggerheads and have made up their minds to show him the exit door
