16 persons arrested as Navy uncovers illegal training camp in Lagos

An illegal training camp has been uncovered by the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, Badagry Lagos. The illegal base at Oto-Awori, Ijanikin, along Lagos-Badagry Expressway is being used by a syndicate to train prospective applicants into the Nigerian Navy. Arrested were four management staff of a maritime agency, who have been parading themselves as Naval officers, and 12 recruits, who claimed to have paid between N50,000 and N250,000 as admission fees into the Navy. Roast duck vendor dies of bird flu

The official news agency in China on Saturday has disclosed that a roast duck vendor has died of bird flu in central China, the latest human casualty of the disease this winter. The 36-year-old man, surnamed Zhang, passed away on January 11 in Yongcheng city of the central province of Henan, Xinhua cited the provincial health and family planning commission as saying. Borno State government has announced a ban on the sale of alcohol and prostitution in the state as part of its efforts to curtail criminality and social vices.
