Moshood Owolabi, a 200 Level student of a South-Western university has been sentenced to death by hanging for stabbing his fellow student to death. Delivering judgment yesterday, Justice Adegboye Gbolagunte of an Ibadan high court sentenced Owolabi to death by hanging for causing the death of one Seun Kolawole, two years ago. A driver was killed yesterday for by men from the Ogun State Command of the Nigerian Custom Service (NCS), for allegedly carrying smuggled rice. The incident nearly resulted in the razing down of the headquarters of the custom’s office located at Quarry Road, Abeokuta, but for the quick intervention of policemen, soldiers and members of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC). A warehouse containing 23,000 bags of 50kg imported parboiled rice has been sealed by the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’. The importers are said to owe the Federal Government N149.5m in import duty. The Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr. Jerome Attah, stated this in a statement on Tuesday. Onyinyechi Akunne, a 29-year-old housewife, who allegedly killed her 35-year-old husband, Abuchi Akunne, with a kitchen knife over a lottery ticket, also known as Baba Ijebu, was, yesterday, brought before an Ikeja High Court.
