Bauchi State has been thrown into mourning following the death of Alhaji Ibrahim Ladan Duguri, the Executive Secretary of the Bauchi State Health Contributory Management Agency (BASHCMA), in a fatal road accident that also claimed the lives of four of his children.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday evening, October 17, at Yalwan Duguri in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The deceased’s children were identified as Hajara, Usman, Rukayya and Maryam, while another son, Suleiman, reportedly survived the accident.
Governor Bala Mohammed confirmed the tragedy in a condolence message issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado.
The governor expressed profound sorrow over the deaths, describing the incident as a monumental loss to Bauchi State, particularly its health sector.
Mohammed said Duguri distinguished himself through dedication and commitment to improving access to healthcare services, especially for less privileged residents of the state.
According to the governor, the late agency chief played an important role in advancing Bauchi State’s contributory health management system and supporting efforts to make healthcare more accessible to residents.
He also acknowledged Duguri’s contributions to the state’s medical team during pilgrimage exercises in Saudi Arabia, where he helped promote the health and well-being of pilgrims.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, the governor described Duguri as a close personal friend and classmate, noting that his death was not only a loss to the state but also a deeply personal tragedy.
Mohammed expressed particular sadness over the deaths of the four children in the same accident, saying the incident had compounded the grief of the bereaved family.
He prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and asked Allah to grant the surviving son, Suleiman, strength and a full recovery.
The governor also extended his condolences to the immediate family, the Duguri Emirate Council, friends, associates, colleagues and the people of Bauchi State, urging residents to support the bereaved family with prayers and compassion during the difficult period.
The funeral prayers for Duguri and his four deceased children were scheduled for Sunday, October 18, at the palace of the District Head of Yalwan Duguri.
