19 students commit suicide over exam failure

After failing school final examinations, no fewer than 19 students in India’s Telangana state are thought to have committed suicide, officials and news reports said on Thursday. Parents and students have been protesting across the state since the results of the Intermediate Examination for students of the two senior most grades were announced on April 18. Patience Odowo, a woman in whose freezer a a six-year old boy, Treasure Akinsohun, was found dead, hours after he was declared missing, has been arrested by police. The freezer was normally used to sell water and soft drinks. Police in Benin city, Edo state, have arrested a 26-year-old bricklayer, Kenneth Ofoke, for allegedly selling his six-week-old twin babies for half a million naira.
