Union Bank of Nigeria Plc has sustained an impressive performance with profit before tax of N5.4 billion despite the challenging operating environment that pervaded the first quarter (Q1) of 2019. The unaudited results showed that Union Bank ended the Q1 with gross earnings of N37.7 billion, indicating a decline of five per cent from N39.5 billion in 2018.   Students of the Federal University of Technology, Akure,  Ondo State on Wednesday protested against the killing of one of them, identified as Israel Anuolowapo by a reckless driver.  Anuolowapo, a 100  level student of the Mathematics Department of the institution was allegedly killed by a hit and run vehicle in front of the university main gate on Tuesday.   During the protest, the students in their hundreds barricaded the busy  Ilesa-Akure Expressway, chanting various solidarity songs. Three suspected members of a robbery/ kidnap gang, who abducted and murdered two Bureau de Change operators last month, in Ikorodu area of Lagos have been arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Lagos State Police command. District head of Daura, kidnapped

The district head of Daura, Alhaji Musa Umar, has been kidnapped by four unidentified gunmen. The kidnappers were said to have stormed Umar’s Daura residence at 7pm on Wednesday and shooting into the air as bystanders scampered to safety. A Lagos Division of the Lagos State High Court Tuesday adjourned for ruling a case of malicious prosecution and defamation brought by five employees of Dangote Flour Mills against the company and its group managing director, Thabo Mabe.
