Bandits Kill Pregnant Woman, Four Others in Sokoto Attack

A pregnant woman and four others were killed when armed bandits attacked Alkalije village in the Yabo Local Government Area of Sokoto State in the early hours of Monday.

Residents said the gunmen stormed the community, located in the Kilgori District near the border with Kebbi State and Silame Local Government Area, and began shooting indiscriminately.

According to local sources, two other villagers sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.

A community leader, who requested anonymity for security reasons, described the repeated assaults as devastating, noting that the attackers often cross into Sokoto from neighboring Kebbi State.

> “They have been invading our communities from Kebbi and Silame. They kill, abduct, and even impose levies on us. When we can’t pay within the deadline, they return to launch attacks,” he said.

He appealed to the government to establish a security outpost in the area, lamenting that there is currently no permanent security presence to deter such incursions.

When contacted, the spokesman for the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, said he was not yet aware of the incident but promised to investigate. As of the time of filing this report, no further details had been provided by the command.
