Over 100 MFM church accounts frozen in UK after major financial scandal hits Olukoya’s ministry

The United Kingdom’s Charity Commission has frozen more than 100 bank accounts linked to the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) following concerns over weak financial oversight and possible mismanagement of church funds.

According to an official report published on the UK government website, the freeze order was issued as part of a statutory inquiry into the church’s operations and governance structure. The investigation revealed that several MFM branches across the UK were running independent bank accounts without proper control or authorization from the central trustees.

The Commission said the trustees of the charity — which is registered in England and Wales — failed to demonstrate effective financial supervision or accountability for the numerous accounts operated by its branches.

As a result, a freezing order was made on February 2, 2022, under Section 76(3)(d) of the Charities Act, to prevent the disposal or misuse of funds pending the outcome of the inquiry.

“The inquiry identified serious concerns about the management of funds and the oversight of branch activities,” the Commission stated, adding that the freeze was imposed to protect charitable assets from potential abuse.

The report also revealed that some MFM branches entered into property purchases and lease agreements without the knowledge or approval of the main trustees — a breach of charity governance rules.

Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries International, founded by Nigerian cleric Dr. Daniel Olukoya, operates hundreds of branches across the UK and other countries. The church has previously come under scrutiny over late financial filings and poor governance practices.

The Charity Commission has now directed MFM’s trustees to reform their governance structure, tighten financial controls, and ensure full compliance with UK charity laws.

As of the time of filing this report, MFM officials had yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
