The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Abubakar Abba, leader of the notorious Mahmuda terrorist group, in Wawa town, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago announced the arrest in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Bologi Ibrahim, describing it as a major breakthrough in the fight against terrorism.
Abba, whose group has been linked to violent operations in Borgu and parts of Kwara State, was captured without a single shot being fired during an intelligence-led operation.
“This is a huge victory for us as a people and as a government,” Bago said, commending President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to tackling insecurity. He also praised recent federal security appointments, particularly in the DSS, for boosting counter-terrorism efforts.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to work closely with the Federal Government and security agencies to eradicate terrorism in Niger State and beyond.
