Nigerian Army Foils Attempt to Smuggle Truckload of Marijuana, Arrests Suspects


Troops from the Nigerian Army apprehended two individuals, one from Benin (Matthew Edegbe) and the other from Nigeria (Joshua Dansu), while they were attempting to smuggle a truck filled with a substance believed to be marijuana into the country. The arrest took place during a stop-and-search operation on Ajilete Road in Ogun State.

The suspects were transporting the drugs in a truck without a license plate. Investigations by the troops revealed that the marijuana was brought in from Ghana. The truck was found to contain 397 wraps of the suspected substance.

Matthew Edegbe, the Beninese national, and Joshua Dansu from Nigeria are currently cooperating with the ongoing investigations. Several items, including a Benin Republic national identification card, a driver’s license belonging to George Benyagbe, phones, and N7,000 in cash, were also seized from the suspects.

The suspects, along with the truck and confiscated items, are in custody and will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, praised the troops for their dedication and vigilance, encouraging them to continue their diligent efforts.
