Nigerian Air Force Strikes Blow to Boko Haram and ISWAP in Lake Chad Region

On Monday, the Nigerian Air Force reported that it conducted successful airstrikes against Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists near Lake Chad in Borno State. Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, confirmed this in a statement.

The airstrikes targeted and destroyed the terrorists’ hideouts, as well as their strategic logistics base in the area, specifically at Tumbun Fulani and Tumbun Shitu between September 27 and September 30. These strikes were carried out in response to intelligence indicating that these locations posed a threat to military installations and the safety of law-abiding citizens.

In the case of Tumbun Fulani, terrorists were observed loading jerrycans onto two concealed gun trucks. NAF aircraft were deployed to intercept this major logistics base, resulting in the destruction of the gun trucks and the neutralization of several terrorists.

Similarly, airstrikes were conducted at Tumbun Shitu after suspected terrorist hideouts were spotted under dense foliage. Three gun trucks with terrorists were seen entering the location, prompting the necessity for a strike that resulted in the neutralization of terrorists and the destruction of the trucks.

These actions reflect the commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to curbing the activities of terrorists, especially in the Northeast region. These operational achievements are a result of improved coordination and cooperation among various security agencies and the unwavering support of the Nigerian people.
