NDLEA Apprehends Lawyer and Student Attempting to Export Methamphetamine Disguised as Crayfish to Europe

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended Benjamin Daberechi, a 19-year-old student, for his involvement in an attempt to export 7.2 kg of methamphetamine hidden in crayfish to Europe.

Daberechi was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja while preparing to board Turkish Airlines flight TK 0624 bound for Europe, where he claimed he was going for undergraduate studies in Cyprus.

Upon a thorough search, a white substance discovered in his luggage tested positive for methamphetamine.

In a separate operation, a female lawyer named Ebikpolade Helen was arrested after NDLEA operatives found 5 kg of cannabis and 12 bottles of skuchies (a combination of cannabis, opioids, and black currant) in her apartment located in Lekki, Lagos. Following this seizure, a subsequent operation took place in Awka, Anambra State, resulting in her arrest.

Additionally, NDLEA operatives intercepted a shipment of 116.5 kg of Colorado, a potent strain of cannabis, concealed within bags hidden in a stack of used motor spare parts.

The shipment was discovered in a container marked FCIU 8459700, which contained three units of used vehicles imported from Toronto, Canada. The joint examination carried out by NDLEA, Nigeria Customs Service, Department of State Services, and other stakeholders led to the discovery of 233 parcels of the illicit substance concealed among the used vehicle spare parts.

Moreover, NDLEA operatives in Lagos successfully thwarted attempts to export various quantities of illicit substances through courier companies. For instance, they seized 336 grams of skunk hidden inside computer hard drives destined for Dubai, United Arab Emirates, at a courier firm.
