Taiwo Akinola, a 29-yr-old man has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command over alleged attempt to kill his mother for ritual purpose through an advanced cyber fraud known as Yahoo Plus.
The victim, Mrs. Alice Akinola, had her skull smashed with a plank studded with nails and then a pressing iron during the alleged attack by her son, Taiwo Akinola, inside their flat located at 2, Raji Ajanaku Street, Alaja Road, Ayobo area of Lagos, at about 8.30p.m., Sunday. As at yesterday, doctors at an undisclosed hospital were still battling to revive the victim, who was brought in unconscious, with a deep cut on her forehead and a swollen face. It was gathered that the suspect, had approached his mother in her shop located in front of her residence and invited her for a discussion inside their flat. To cover his tracks, he sent his 14-year-old nephew, Farouk, who stays with them, to buy him a white handkerchief and a stick of cigarette. As his unsuspecting mother entered the flat, her son was alleged to have smashed her head with the nails-studded plank, causing her collapse. Not done, he was further alleged to have hit her with a pressing iron and a UPS charger, until she became motionless.
Meanwhile, on his return, Farouk did not meet his grandmother in the shop, which was locked. He then left for the flat to get the key to the shop, only to find his grandmother in the pool of her blood. He raised the alarm, which alerted neighbours. One of the neighbours, Mr. Gbadamosi Deinde, told said: “I was about driving to church when I heard the alarm. When I saw people rushing towards Number 2, I alighted from the car and told my wife to look after the children, while I went to see what the matter was. “We saw Taiwo rushing out with his shirt and hands stained with blood. Some people held him and took him back to the flat, where we saw his mother motionless. We know him to be a cultist, but never knew he could take it this far. Everyone concluded that his mother was dead.” Policemen from Ayobo were contacted. They visited the scene and arrested Taiwo, while his mother was rushed to the hospital. The initial deposit for doctors to commence treatment on the woman was paid by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Mr. Imohimi Edgal. Fetish items recovered When the house was searched, the blood-stained, nail-studded plank and pressing iron, according to the Police Command Public Relations Officer, Chike Oti, were recovered in the suspect’s room.
