Kidnappers kill lawmaker’s son, release wives in Bauchi

Kidnappers who reportedly abducted some family members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly member representing Dass Constituency, Bala Ali, have killed the lawmaker’s eldest son.

Abdul Burra, the spokesperson for the Speaker of the House, Abubakar Suleiman, who shared proceedings of the Assembly’s plenary on Tuesday, said the member representing Burra Constituency, Ado Wakili, disclosed this during the House’s sitting under personal explanation.

According to him, the lawmaker, who extended his condolences to the members on the murder of his colleague’s son, described the incident as tragic.

Responding to the motion, the Speaker announced that the lawmakers would pay a condolence visit to the bereaved family after the plenary.

Burra said Baballe Dambam, the member representing Dambam/Zagaya/Jalam Constituency, while narrating what happened, explained that the deceased was kidnapped by unknown people who held him for days and subsequently killed him.

He described the incident as shocking and disturbing, adding that the funeral prayers for the deceased had already taken place.

The Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, who confirmed the incident, said the gunmen also abducted the deceased’s two wives and one-year-old child.

They were later released from captivity after several days.
