JAMB places 3year ban on candidate over falsified results

In a statement signed by Dr Fabian Benjamin, Acting Director of Public Affairs and Protocol, JAMB announced that Mmesoma’s 2023 UTME result has been withdrawn, and she has been banned from sitting for the board’s examination for the next three years.

JAMB had initially withdrawn Mmesoma’s UTME result, accusing her of manipulating and falsifying her scores. However, Mmesoma released a viral video denying these allegations, stating that there might have been a technical malfunction in JAMB’s system. She claimed that her result was an original printout from the board’s portal.

JAMB clarified that its system was not tampered with or compromised and accused Mmesoma of falsifying a copy of a result slip belonging to another candidate named Asimiyu Mariam Omobolanle, who had scored 138 in the 2021 UTME. The board urged the public to scan the QR code on Mmesoma’s result slip to verify its actual owner.

JAMB explained that it stopped issuing Notification of Result slips in 2021 due to candidates falsifying their results through those slips. Instead, the board has been issuing actual UTME RESULT Slips since 2022, which include the candidate’s photograph.

JAMB expressed its lack of concern regarding the fraudulent claims made by Mmesoma, stating that it has faced similar situations before. The board handed over the case to relevant security agencies for a thorough investigation to identify the masterminds behind the scam. JAMB also proposed a public session with security agencies, representatives of Mmesoma, and civil society organizations to address the issue.

The board revealed that Mmesoma was set to receive an honor from the Anambra State Government, but an official’s call prompted them to verify her claim. It was discovered that Mmesoma had fraudulently claimed to have scored 362 when her actual score was 249, which she used to obtain scholarships and other recognitions.

In summary, JAMB has declared Mmesoma’s UTME result as fake, withdrawn her result for the 2023 examination, and banned her from taking the exam for the next three years. The board has also accused Mmesoma of manipulating and falsifying her scores and plans to investigate the matter further with the assistance of security agencies.
