Controversy Erupts as Former President Obasanjo Orders Yoruba Traditional Rulers to Stand Up and Greet Him

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s recent actions at the commissioning of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology’s College of Agricultural Science and Renewable Natural Resources in Iseyin, Oyo State, have sparked controversy. In a video circulating online, he ordered Yoruba traditional rulers to stand up and greet him, chastising them for failing to do so earlier.

This has drawn criticism from some prominent figures in the South-West, including the Oluwo of Iwo, who condemned Obasanjo’s actions and called for an apology. Additionally, a socio-cultural group, Ebedi Frontliners, Iseyin, has urged Obasanjo to apologize to the traditional rulers in Oke-Ogun for his remarks, which they believe have harmed their reputation. The situation remains contentious, with some demanding an apology while others blame the traditional rulers for complying with Obasanjo’s directive.
