APGA factional chairman, Okafor is dead

Chief Nwabueze Okafor, the factional national chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, is dead.
Popularly known in Enugu State with his chieftancy little, Okpochengene, Okafor was a former National President of Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, and former Council Chairman of Enugu South.
Okafor’s ally and Assistant National Financial Secretary of APGA, Okechukwu Nkolagu, who confirmed the death said he died at about 8am, yesterday.
Another political ally of the deceased said Okafor died at Niger Foundation Hospital, Enugu after a brief illness.
“You know he had suffered some illness when he was council chairman. Maybe the illness came back or something but I can tell you I was informed he died this morning (yesterday).”
In 2015, Okafor contested for Senate in Enugu East senatorial district on the platform of APGA but lost to his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, counterpart, Senator Gil Nnaji.
Shortly after the election, Okafor was nominated as APGA National Vice Chairman (South East) before he became acting national chairman when Dr Victor Ike-Oye was suspended by the national executive committee of the party.
