Police Launch Manhunt for 18-Year-Old Housewife Over Alleged Genital Assault on Husband in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has launched a manhunt for an 18-year-old housewife, Khadija Jamilu, over the alleged violent assault on her husband in Potiskum Local Government Area of the state.

Police said Khadija is accused of inflicting severe injuries on the genitals of her 25-year-old husband with a knife during a domestic dispute on Friday.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed on Saturday in Damaturu that the Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call around 3:00 p.m., reporting that the incident had occurred earlier at about 1:00 a.m. in the community.

According to Abdulkarim, police operatives immediately rushed to the scene and evacuated the injured man to the State Specialist Hospital in Potiskum for emergency medical treatment. He said the victim was later referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare, in Bauchi State, due to the severity of his injuries.

“Khadija fled the scene immediately after the attack and has remained at large since the incident,” the police spokesperson said, adding that efforts were ongoing to arrest the suspect while investigations continue.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Emmanuel Ado, strongly condemned the act, describing it as a disturbing case of domestic violence.

Ado urged families and couples to desist from resolving marital disputes through violence or sexual assault, stressing that marriage should be built on mutual respect, patience, understanding and tolerance.

He further advised couples facing marital challenges to seek counselling and peaceful dialogue by involving parents, religious leaders or other trusted mediators rather than resorting to violence.
