Police Arrest Rivers Pastor for Alleged Dehumanisation of Minors

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 41-year-old cleric, Pastor Ifediorah Onyeibor Joseph, for allegedly subjecting children to inhumane treatment during a church programme in the state.

His arrest came after a disturbing video surfaced on social media, purportedly showing minors undergoing degrading acts in his church.

Police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the pastor had organised a three-day programme for children, claiming it was a “spiritual cleansing” exercise inspired by the Holy Spirit. Acting on intelligence, officers stormed the church, arrested Joseph alongside several members, and rescued the minors, who are now in protective custody.

“A thorough investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances of the incident and any breach of the law,” Iringe-Koko stated.

She added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, assured the public that safeguarding vulnerable persons, especially minors, remains a priority, urging residents to promptly report any suspected abuse to security agencies.
