The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, has levelled grave allegations against the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, accusing him of having a sexual relationship with his former wife and conspiring to assassinate him.
In a video shared on social media, the Oluwo claimed his ex-wife, who returned from Canada, was “packaged” and planted in his palace as part of a plot to discredit and eliminate him. He alleged that she attempted to poison him twice and secretly colluded with the Ooni while they were still married.
The monarch further suggested that a child born during the marriage might not be his, insisting that he would conduct a DNA test. He also accused the Ooni of arranging accommodation for the woman after she left his palace, claiming the pair met at a hotel.
Reacting to the controversy, traditional rulers under the Origbo Meje Obas in Ife-North issued the Oluwo a 21-day ultimatum to provide evidence of the allegations, warning that such statements were damaging to the image of the Yoruba traditional institution.
The Ooni of Ife is yet to respond publicly to the allegations.
