Nigerian Immigration Raises Passport Fees to N100,000, N200,000 from September 1

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced a fresh increase in the cost of obtaining the Nigerian Standard Passport, effective September 1, 2025.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Service Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi, the agency said the new rates would apply only to applications processed within Nigeria.

Under the revised tariff, a 32-page passport with five-year validity will now cost ₦100,000, while the 64-page, 10-year booklet has been pegged at ₦200,000.

The statement, however, clarified that charges for Nigerians applying abroad remain unchanged at $150 for the 32-page, five-year document and $230 for the 64-page, 10-year option.

According to the NIS, the upward review was necessary to preserve the quality and integrity of the Nigerian passport while sustaining accessibility for citizens.

The development marks the second consecutive increment in just over a year. In August 2024, the Federal Government approved an earlier hike that raised the 32-page, five-year passport from ₦35,000 to ₦50,000, and the 64-page, 10-year version from ₦70,000 to ₦100,000, effective September 1, 2024.

At the time, the service defended the adjustment as crucial to improving service delivery and ensuring the durability of the travel document.
