In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a family of four — a father, mother, and their two daughters — over their alleged involvement in drug smuggling.
The arrest, which was confirmed by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi on Monday, took place following a coordinated intelligence operation that uncovered the family’s suspected role in a drug syndicate operating between Lagos and other parts of the country.
According to the NDLEA, the suspects were apprehended at their residence in a Lagos suburb, where various quantities of illicit substances, including methamphetamine and cannabis, were recovered. Preliminary investigations suggest the family had been running the illegal trade for months, using their home as a storage and distribution point.
“This arrest highlights the disturbing trend of entire families getting involved in drug trafficking,” Babafemi stated. “It is a wake-up call for communities and parents to reject such criminal paths, regardless of the pressure or perceived profit.”
He added that the suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are concluded.
The NDLEA reiterated its commitment to intensifying the fight against drug trafficking and abuse across Nigeria, warning that no individual or group — regardless of familial ties — would be spared if found culpable.
